Bathroom Addition Adds Space to Mt. Lebanon Brick Home
A Mt. Lebanon family of five was exasperated from sharing one bathroom. They had a second bathroom, but it was inconveniently located two flights down from the bedroom level. They needed a two-story addition, including one new bathroom and a half bath. They also wanted the new portion of the home to look like it was part of the original design.
Both owners are busy and don’t have time to manage a construction project, so they wanted to find a contractor that would complete the job quickly and with little supervision. Action Builders had a good reputation among Mt. Lebanon homeowners, so they invited us for a consultation. They liked our design and build process and appreciated that we would work within their budget, so they chose us to do the work.
Efficient Design-Build Process and an Exceptional Bathroom Addition
The owners were willing to adjust their budget to put brick on the entire addition so it would match the rest of the home’s original exterior. To save costs on other design elements, they chose a metal standing seam roof to match the slate on the existing house. Our mason matched the brick color as well as the style and color of the mortar so it mimicked the look of the original portion of the home.
The final addition included a master bathroom and a powder room. The owner chose custom tile and a combination of onyx and marble for the other surfaces.
Some hidden complications arose during the project, including a sewer line that needed replacing and was deeper than we had originally thought. We value-engineered some of the tile trim pieces to reduce the cost but still get the look they wanted. In the end, we stayed within their budget.
No More Cramped Bathroom!
The owners loved the results. The adults didn’t have to continue sharing a bathroom with their three teenagers, and the mom got her office so she could stop working on her dining room table.
