When this North Hills family needed more space but loved their location, the solution was clear…build up. So we built a second-story addition on their ranch-style home, transforming it into a spacious two-story residence designed for comfort, functionality, and future growth. By removing the walls of the first-floor bedrooms, we transformed that space into a beautiful living area for the whole family.

This North Hills single-story ranch home layout limited the home’s ability to grow with the family. Creating a second story required thoughtful planning from our design and build team, especially to ensure proper ceiling heights and a seamless connection between levels. A full second-story addition was constructed, completely reimagining the home’s layout while preserving its original character.
Our professional carpenters created a new staircase, strategically placed above the existing basement stairs. To achieve proper floor-to-floor height, the staircase was turned with a landing leading to the second floor. A custom peek-through window was incorporated into the staircase—adding charm and paying homage to the home’s original design.
Ranch Home Addition with Spacious Bedrooms & Modern Main Floor Layout
The newly added second floor was designed to give this North Hills family room to grow, featuring three spacious bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and three large walk-in closets, ensuring everyone has their own comfortable space.
On the main level, the original layout was thoughtfully reworked to better suit modern living. One of the existing bedrooms was converted into a functional home office, while two others were combined to create a large, open family room. This transformation created an ideal space for both everyday living and entertaining.
Seamless Home Addition in Pittsburgh with Plans for Backyard Living
The homeowners temporarily relocated during construction, allowing the home in Ross Twp with the addition project to move forward efficiently and on schedule. Interior construction was completed in approximately four months, with additional time dedicated to finishing the exterior once weather conditions improved in the Pittsburgh area. With the interior transformation now complete, the homeowners are already looking ahead to the next phase, planning a custom outdoor backyard living space that will seamlessly complement their newly expanded home and enhance their overall living experience.
